The Best Flowering Houseplants

Flowers have long been regarded as one of the most beautiful things in the world. We give them to each other in times of joy and in times of real sorrow. They are the subject of poets and artists for centuries, and for good reason. However, for those of us that flower lovers, the seasons change, and with the advent of winter, we said goodbye to their beauty. Many of us forget that there are several flowering houseplants that can fill your winter days with a remarkable beauty.

A houseplant can brighten almost any cold or dark corner of a house and put the boring or depressing into something lively. A house with many houseplants feels alive and speaks something about the lives of the people who live there. If you have not tried a number of flowering houseplants grow then you should give it a try right away. Here is a list and a set of descriptions of some of my favorite flowering houseplants:

1. A favorite of mine is the passionflower vine that can grow up a trellis or other structure. The flowers are really great and give a great smell. Like many other plants, passionflower vine requires a lot of exposure to sunlight.

2. Flowering maples (also called Abutilons) are very vulnerable and have remarkable bell-shaped flowers. Flowers come in many different colors, including pink, red, white, yellow and peach. Some people report having these plants bloom in the winter. My friends have said that they thrive in a well fertilized soil and with plenty of light.

3. Jasmines are another good option for a flowering houseplant, because they tend to emit scents. They do well in nitrogen rich soil and they do well in full sun or some shade.

4. Angel Trumpet is a remarkable plant with very large pendulous flowers. It is very fragrant and thrive through the winter. Keep the plant well watered and make sure it gets direct sunlight.

5. Lavender is another option, but not one that you could think about when considering a houseplant. Lavender likes a lot of sun, but it does not have a huge amount of water. The best thing about the plant is that it produces those beautiful lavender scent. Imagine a house in the dead of winter, nothing lives outside, filled with the smell of fresh lavender!

These are just some of the many great flowering houseplants that you should consider trying in your home or office. Remember that flowering houseplants do not need to just go into a house! They can easily be grown in a number of environments without too much work. An otherwise impersonal office is something beautiful and unique as a large indoor plant is brought into it. There are many options when it comes to where the plant can not be limited!
